People traveled across town and even across the country to participate in this historical and momentous event.

They Laughed At Thomas Edison And The Wright Brothers Too

I remember a time when the idea of buying bottled water was considered, by most people, to be “crazy”, “ridiculous”, “stupid”, “outrageous”, and so on and people actually laughed at the very idea… Well you know they also laughed at Thomas Edison and the Wright Brothers too. “Why would anybody pay for water when you can get it for free?” was, of course, the rational behind their scoffing. Ignorance was the bliss that fueled their comments and laughter then, just as it is today. As we all well know bottled water is a multi billion dollar industry these days and most everyone is willing to pay a price for what they understand to be “pure and clean water”. Unfortunately just because everyone is willing to pay doesn’t mean that they are actually getting what they actually want. There is controversy over the purity, or lack thereof, of the many different variety of bottled waters available for purchase. Apparently some of the pure water isn’t so pure.

The acceptance of bottled water in society has resulted in another environmental issue which is the “mountains of waste” that are being created by all those empty plastic bottles. I’m no scientist but it seems to me that if we keep putting billions and billions of plastic bottles into the earth, year after year, and plastic does not decompose, something bad is likely to happen at some point in the future. Besides it is a real hassle to buy and carry all of that bottled water. I know because I drink it everyday but I do not like lifting it out of the shopping cart for them to scan it, I don’t like putting it in and out of the car and I don’t like carrying it into the house. Come to think of it, I don’t even like ripping open the thick plastic packaging and fishing out the bottles and then having to put them into the refrigerator one by one. I don’t know about you but I can only comfortably pick up about 4 bottles at a time when I am loading them into the refrigerator and there are 24 or more in a case. As I am writing this it makes me realize that I am doing “a lot of work” just to have my pure water.
